Carry that Weight: Don’t Make the Inevitable Unacceptable
Sometimes we just need to keep walking.
I went on what I thought would be a short hike a few years back in northern New Mexico. I was going to hike to a place called Lost Lake, hang out awhile, and then go back down. It was only 10 a.m. when I got to Lost Lake, so I decided to go a few more miles to Horseshoe Lake. I got there by 11:30, rested a while, and decided to keep on going.
By the time the day was over, I had hiked the highest peak in New Mexico and come down a different path to make a big, sixteen-mile loop. I had to walk backward for the last two or three miles because I had forgotten my knee braces, and going downhill is painful these days.
