Oh, James is ranting about social media? That’s new.
It seems like more and more people recognize the problems with social media. I talk to more and more people who seem to actively dislike it. But I haven't seen anything that tells me fewer people are using it, so I'm not quite ready to stop banging this drum yet.
Self-absorption was one of the primary reasons I withdrew from social media. I used to use Instagram a lot to promote my business and my online writing, but I stopped posting on there quite a while ago. I actually went and deleted my account right before I edited this e-mail.
I use Facebook occasionally, but I'd be surprised if I spend more than 20 minutes per week on there. It's been a strange shift for me. I liked Instagram for a long time because I didn't know many people who followed me. Now I like Facebook more because I do know the people on there, and the whole-cult-of-personality-influencer-who-can-manage-every-aspect-of-who-people-think-they-are isn't an option.
